Photography

our task was to go out into Rochdale take pictures of things we thought represented it, wether positive or negative. for all of the pictures i take my camera is on the setting aperture priority (A) meaning i have to manually change the iso and the shutter speed however the camera automatically changes the aperture.

my 7 favorite pictures:

this is an image i captured of a man riding his bike away from the post office. it shows the new opened bridge with the new clean brick work. however you can also see some old run down buildings in the far distance and the regal moon pub in the background also. these both look quite run down and show the contrast between the old and the new.

this is an image i captured of a homeless man, i also think this picture is ironic because its right next to a sign about saving money on photographs and he has no money. i think this image really shows that there is a lot of poverty in Rochdale.

This is just a simple image of a brick wall, a few pipes and drain pipes, a bin and a sign painted on the wall saying "PRIVATE NO PARKING" i took this picture because i just think the whole image came together nicely with the plants on the ground trying to push trough the concrete.

I thought this would be a nice picture because its a reasonably nice looking car that is in a not so nice looking area, with vines growing all over the walls, white paint chipping off the reveal the old red brick wall beneth it. and dry dead plants next to and behind the car.

This is the town hall clock tower, its the most beautiful building in the whole of Rochdale and its right in the town center, surrounded by discount shops and old closed down shops. there is a lot of contrast in the town center of Rochdale and i wanted to capture some of the good in the town.

This is an old pub that has been closed down a while. and its clear that people had been breaking in once it closed because they had to put metal plates over all the windows and doors to stop people breaking and entering. there is also a advertisement on the wall for a circus, this advert looks like it has been there a while as the colour has faded and it looks quite creepy. there is lots of abandoned buildings in Rochdale especially old mills from back when Rochdale was notorious for cotton making and had lots and lots of mills.

This i think is a good overall representation of Rochdale, because it shows the lovely flowers from a flower stand which sits directly outside of a arcade, where people loose lots of money everyday and even some peoples lives get ruined by things like arcades because they have no money to spend on it but they get addicted to it.

overall it was very fun and eye opening to walk around where i live and take pictures of things i thought represented it.

Editing our own camara shots.

using Adobe Premier:

to edit all of our shots together we used a program called Adobe Premier, this is a video editing software that you can use to edit multiple shots, images and sounds together.
we used this software to edit the videos that we captured last week on the cameras, of all the different shot types, such as; extreme close-up, close-up, medium close-up, medium shot, high angle, twin shot, Extreme long shot, long shot, low angle, dutch angle and silhouette.
Not only did we edit them together we also added titles and transitions.

When editing the videos together,i realized i didn't have every single shot type, when filming we forgot to do an extreme close up so when editing i made one of the close-ups into an extreme on by zooming in, i didn't know you could do this at first so that's something new i learnt in the lesson.
i kept my editing simple and my titles also simple so the viewer could focus more on the actual clips and what they were showing, and could clearly read the titles and understand what they were saying.
i also realized some of the clips were too short when editing the videos together so i slowed them down to make them longer.

when adding in the clips i only added in the video footage, and left the audio out because it was windy and detracting.

while editing this video i also learnt that it was important to always keep making sure that the video is rendered by clicking enter on your key bored.

technical code and symbolic codes

what do technical codes and symbolic codes do in video games?

just like in movies and TV shows video games have a heavy use of camera angles too, they help add to the plot, create tension, show what s happening and they can also show who's bad and who is good.

technical codes:

technical codes are used to show and tell the story such as the Camera work, lighting, sound and editing. camera work shows the story visually,it shows whats happening in the scene and allows the viewer/player to see whats going on.
lighting can show whether its night or day which can also be crucial to the storyline.
sound allows the viewer/player to hear whats going on around the character or in that scene for example if a character is scared because they hear footsteps coming from another room, it will allow the user to hear these footsteps too and have a better understanding of the scenario.
Editing this can allow the user to understand may things, for example if two characters are having a conversation and you want to be able to see the front of their face while talking Editing allows you to switch between looking at each face while they are talking to show their facial expressions and be able to better understand what they are saying by their lip movement.
all of these allow for the user to understand what is going on in a scene and are crucial in video games.

symbolic codes:

symbolic codes are equally as important for understanding whats going on as technical codes. symbolic codes allow you so see or feel whats beneath the surface, in symbolic code they use; camera angles, lighting, sound and editing. camera angles can be used to represent certain characters or situations for example if a bad guy walks on and they want to show him walking on in a camera show they would be most likely to use a low angle, this makes the character look big and tall and more powerful than the player and the other characters in the game, then if the big bad character walks over to a small vulnerable character and they want to show how small and helpless that character is they might use a high angle because this makes the player feel as if they are looking down on the character.
sound is also very important for symbolic codes because with sound you can put in certain music or sounds that will show how the character is feeling or whats happening, for example if a character is scared they might put in heavy breathing as slightly scary music to create an atmosphere and make the the player be able to relate to the character more by putting the player on edge.
with lighting in video games it can help create an atmosphere because if a room is dark it might symbolize something bad is going to occur, however if the scene is all light it could show that everyone in the scene is happy and nothing bad is going to happen.
With editing you can show something like an intense chase by cutting between the two characters that are chasing/being chased and as the characters get closer and closer the cuts could speed up until they're on the same camera shot, this makes it more intense for the viewer and allows them to feel the panic that the character being chased does.

camera angles:

Image result for extreme close upextreme close up: this allows the viewer to see in depth what emotions that character is feeling it can also build up a lot of tension if its held for a long time.

Image result for close up
close up: they allow the user to see the expression on the characters face clearly, showing their whole face.

Image result for medium close up
medium close up: this allow for the viewer to still clearly see the expression on the characters face without it souly being focused on the expression. it shows some of the background and also some of what the character is wearing. this all shows whats going on in the scene while still focusing on the character.

Image result for mid shot film

medium shot: this allows the viewer to see half the characters body, showing what state there body is in, what they are wearing while still showing there expression but not as clear as the closer shots. and it also shows more of the characters surroundings.

Image result for high angle shot

high angle: this make the character in the shot look small and weak and is usually used when a larger presence than the main character is around.

Image result for medium shot

twin shot: this just simply shows two characters in a shot together side by side. it usually shows that the two characters are some sort of team or pair.

Image result for extreme long shot
extrame long shot: this can be used for many different things such as to show a large crowd, to show the scenery/setting, it can also be used to make a character look small.

Image result for long shot
long shot: these can be used to show characters full body along with the background clearly. this allows for a clear understanding as to what is going on around the character and how the character feels about it.

Image result for low angle shotlow angle: this makes the character look vulnerable and the viewer feel intimidated.

Image result for dutch tilt
dutch tilt: this shows that something is wrong or that something bad is happening.

silhouette: this can show there is something wrong or it can be used when a fight is occurring.
